For a shared sketchbook project with Scott Anderson....
A couple bustles down an East Village street.
Its late morning,
brunch is only a few blocks away.
Papers, strewn, are aloft and tumbling
on an east bound gust,
litter left over from a night devoured.

I love the quick strokes. It fits the scene and shows such confidence. Nice one, Peter..! What is the project with Scott?

NANCE!! Hi Scott and i are sharing a sketchbook, passing it back and forth. We just started. Two pages are complete. He got the thing going and is envisioning it as an artistic conversation, where we riff of each others latest page. Should be fun. Took me a bit to get around to it, but when I did i felt pretty comfortable letting it flow. His page was a self portrait so i decided to do the same (thats me in the composition). I expanded the idea and placed myself in a theme that I thought I would enjoy developing.

This is the kind of post that makes this place so cool. A nice respite from a hectic day. Way to go, Peter.

nice painting! so east villagey :) i love your poems that go with them too- do you think of them while you're working or after they're done?
Peter April 3, 2008
Hal . . . this place is cool . . . very cool! Thanks for the comment! Laura . . . I write them both ways. This time it was after I had done the painting and kinda realized, in a deeper way, the narrative I painted. The East Village is really amazing. In so many ways, I find that the values of the "old east village" are still so alive in it's most recent re-birth.

it's beautiful. it looks like a good life come to life.... i really loved the composition too, how it seems dark and windy and cold, but then the blue sky around the corner...

I like the loose brushwork, Peter, and how you captured the swirling papers.
